glock 40 accuracy

Glock 40 Accuracy - If it seems bold to say that Glock pistols need no introduction, we have to ask: To whom,

Should they be introduced? This Austrian oleo is made of a very stiff lightweight polymer frame; Safe trigger system; Steel slide and barrel. And only 34 parts in total are at least small. Even a cursory review of military/SOF, law enforcement, and civilian applications leaves unfamiliar opportunities. All of them are amazingly indestructible and have more than 30 years of proven reliability.

Cloak. Well, to work. Very few bullets begin to do so easily at 10mm, and even fewer pistols can exhibit this ability as long series of gloats.

Springfield Armory Xd .40 Service Model Review

Our view of the G40 is what our legal friends — if we have any — might call a “statement against interest,” meaning a concession: we are fans of 10mm and always have been. Glock's predecessors in caliber are a big part of the "why." Other 10mm fans will understand: unlike many other caliber pistols that have come along, the original 10mm of the 20s Glock still has a lot to offer.

Certainly it was a brilliant piece of market assessment in 1991. Most of the other dozen failed to make it to market in any numbers (Sonny Crockett/Don Johnson/Bren Ten of Miami Vice fame) or quickly unraveled under Norma's early pressure loads (several owners of the tragic Gold Delta Elite or the Smith & Wesson 1006

Lament), the retail shelves had plenty of elbow room and ample storage. The latter came from the practical/tactical pistol dean at the time and Getty's ideological father, Col. Jeff Cooper. "What a 9mm won't do," Colonel Cooper is said to have quipped, "a .45 will do at 25 yards, and a 10mm at 75."

Although the bullets and powders of the day did not allow the cartridge to really shine, ballistics argued that he was right. Reducing energy to correct perceived deficiencies—punishing the rifle's burst and recoil—is, in fact, the origin of the most well-known cartridge—the .40 S&W. But with the advent of the more manageable .40, the autoloader's ample powerhouse-like power became the primary attraction. Being a 10mm fan required patience and persistence, and other than the Glock, options were limited.

The Three Caliber Glock Conversion

Like its G20 predecessor, the G40 is a superior handgun by any standard. This adds dimensions to the slide (8.19 inches between sights) reminiscent of the 17L (9mm) and 24 (.40S&W), although now only the longer sight radius matches a cartridge that can really benefit from it. As a Gen4, it shares a nice improvement in grip ergonomics—complete with optional backstrap and beavertails for those with larger gloves. Reducing the net grip in the basic configuration allows an impressive number of shooters to get back into the sport: several (willing!) volunteers told us that the previous ten mil was too big, but the G40 was comfortable and secure.

That "convenient and secure" became the staple of our evaluation. In the original loadings, the 10mm intentionally moved above the .41 Magnum in terms of power. Volp should come to mind. But the 10mm was quickly and dramatically reduced by many ammunition manufacturers to maintain the earlier pistols. good news? These loads are a light shooting joy in the G40.

Those power levels continue today, though they are still autoloaders, at 400 to 460 foot-pounds. (Federal's 180-grain FMJ was a great performer at this range, producing sub-1-inch 5-shot groups and a very smooth cycle), with a cartridge like the G40 in 10mm being a very capable vehicle. Fortunately, loads from Hornady, Corbon, Buffalo Bore, and Double Tap select bullets at or near their original power levels.

Does Smith And Wesson Beat Glock In A 2.0 Battle?

We broke down the stocks of the original 170-grain JHP Norma (now smaller) to compare with contemporary loads for both powerbands. Our measurements captured both ballistic data

Accuracy, although the latter is understandably compromised. However, all five shots easily hit the 8-inch plate at 50 yards (brake), and the chronograph data was impressive: 1,379 ft/s, 717 ft-lbs. Energy. That's not too bad for quarter-century-old ammunition and first-rate factory sights. Carbon's new "Full Force" formulas were up to 560 ft-lbs. (200-grain flying anvil) 727 ft. -lb. (135-grain JHP - 1,558 ft/sec Thunderbolt).

Several considerations emerged from our testing. The generous chamber of early Glocks helped establish a reputation for impressive reliability, but it was hard on brass (high expansion). The original 10mm only increases this effect, especially when the integrated feed curve of the gas grill/rim barrel. Asymmetric bulges were a dead giveaway as a result of Glock's early-shooting brass. This seemed to risk cracking the case and worried the 10mm fans – not entirely without reason.

Such bloat is long gone in less powerful calibers, and we could find no evidence of it in the G40's flared cases either. A visual inspection of the reloading piston and actual size of the bulge gave no indication (even the Norma cases at full power were fine, recalibration was easy). In the same way, always look carefully for signs of stress.

Second Comfortable Shooting: In short, even with the full force of the original Norma and its modern sequel, we find it stunning. You won't mistake it for a 9mm, but if the cartridge hits a black bear or deer with proper shot placement (check your state's laws), the G40 will be a much more controllable and reliable 10mm with just the right grip and positioning. .

The third may be a little more obscure: a very strong 10mm case, a variety of bullet weights, and excellent accuracy (our Sierra manual calls the 10mm cartridge an "inherently accurate cartridge, usually producing 10-shot groups under an inch. .") making the caliber attractive to handloaders. As a hunting rifle, or for long-range shooting for other purposes, the G40 may (soon) have few enemies. If you prefer, you can shoot your new Glock completely traditional with a factory-supplied or aftermarket trigger.

We've saved the best for last. Along with all the other Gen4 goodies, the G40 comes with a modular optics chip, or MOS. If you prefer, you can shoot your new Glock in a completely traditional manner with factory-supplied or aftermarket (we know our friends at Hiviz, they have Lightwave and Tritium) slit-and-post sights. You will enjoy it.

But if peepholes aren't what they used to be — and they certainly aren't — now you can add a reflex sight, or "red dot," to the G40 in about 10 minutes. With the filler plate removed, a mechanical slot in the slide and one of four base plates (intelligently supplied, conveniently supplied) allow you to mount any small reflex sight you can name. With this sight, the 10mm is at least a hundred yards away, and an accurate rifle as well. Especially powerful loadings with lighter bullets, accurate hits and accurate shots out to 100 yards are no problem.

Is The Glock 48 The New \

Arguably in its fourth incarnation, 10mm photography clings firmly to life. Perhaps now it's clear why: very few cartridges are beginning to do what the 10mm can do with ease, and even fewer pistols can still exhibit that ability as long-series Glocks. In the G40, the Austrian masterpiece reaches new heights of versatility and distinction.

If you're not familiar with red-dot sights, you'll want to be: the optical principles underlying them provide a clear target.

A clear picture of the target. If 20/20 is a cherished memory, this is understandably a big deal. Simply put, they allow distance medication (through glasses, contact lenses, or surgery) to provide a clear target image, and then place a precise point — representing the point of impact of the shot — on the target. Because it's not a labeling technology like lasers, it doesn't "compete" with sunlight, and the dot is always bright on a good quality display. Also, the point does not require visual centering. If the bubble is on your intended target, the bullet will hit that spot even if the bubble appears noticeably out of focus in the lens window (if all goes well).

We chose the Trijicon RMR for our tests, although there are mounts available for several: EOTech, Docter, Burris Fastfire, and Leupold DeltaPoint to name a few. This rugged little bugger is well known in military circles for good reason. Incredibly durable and has measured battery life
